Packing Up A Wet Tent - Backpacking Tip

Prevent wet gear from soaking dry gear with this backpacking tip.

Listening to precipitation fall gently on your tent is helpful when trying to sleep at the end of a tough day, and it's anything BUT helpful when packing up camp in the morning. Great tip Chris. I've used trash compacter bags before as pack liners to keep items inside my pack dry from rains but never even gave a thought to separating dry items from wet items once they get wet. Thanks for this tip... As for a couple of the comments already posted, I would think if the tent is wet, the weathert is too. Packing the dry items in the bag will keep them dry and away from wet pack material. No need to protect the tent If it's already wet...

just out of interest why pack wet items in the pack and dry items in the bag? A seperate trash bag for wet items, or using that one one trash bag for wet items only would make sense...not that your method doesn't since the pack will dry out anyway. Choose your own adventure I guess.

Why do you carry the needless sleeping bag and sleep pad stuff sack especially when stuffing in compacter bag....packs easier and fills voids much better without stuff sacks...just saying....thx for sharing

Keep your wet stuff outside the pack! Tie it on, or use a mesh pocket. How else is it going to dry? Why would anyone want to put that inside the pack? When did people start getting all weird about keeping everything inside the pack?

Why on earth would you get your pack wet and dirty???? PUT THE TENT IN THE TRASH BAG and you keep the mess contained!¡
