Countless firefighters have been on the ground in the Los Angeles area battling several deadly wildfires. Some firefighters have been seen taking water from nearby swimming pools in desperate attempts to find more water sources. Brian Rice, president of the California Professional Firefighters, says the water system is “overloaded” and it’s likely firefighters will be having issues with water until the wildfires are over.

Hold California Officials accountable for their failures.

Water diversion, lack of proper forestry management, budget cuts and PG&E being allowed to get away with whatever they want has all together spelled a recipe a for disaster. Good luck.

You were prepared, but you had improper fire extinguishing infrastructure to protect people and their homes. I know in Pennsylvania we have tons of snow plows and infrastructure to manage lots of snow.

This was completely preventable. The “system” is overloaded because it wasn’t kept up to standards. Water is being diverted AWAY from LA to save the Smelt fish. The fish died by the way. It’s no one’s fault but the leaders of LA and CA.

This is not “common” and they were only as prepared as their leaders allowed them to be. We may lose 2000+ multi million dollar homes but don’t worry, at least the smelt are safe! Thanks Gavin

At least pump from the ocean if you have to. I've seen not one forestry type of fire trucks like we have in Florida.
My neighbors yards caught fire, and type of truck showed up. They pumped out of a pond behind the houses to put it all out.

So the water was not flowing into the ocean to avoid disrupting the fish as reported by several sources???

Wow, it's almost like this is a regular occurence that California should be planning for.

Since it is common for the system to be overloaded in this type of situation, why didn't the government ensure this type of situation didn't happen by clearing away all the undergrowth with controlled burns and other competent measures? Or, why didn't the government allow the citizens/private companies to clear the undergrowth so this situation wouldn't happen?

They were not prepared, as proven by their lack of competent measures to ensure this situation didn't happen. If they were prepared they would have done controlled burns and other competent measures to ensure this didn't happen.

Overloaded, seems like they didn't prepare at all and are you protecting the mayor? There is no excuse for the empty reservoirs and the cuts that were made. I just try and imagine being a firefighter that makes their way to active fires and hooking up to a hydrant to have it go limp before putting out a house. Plus the danger for these firefighters. I am so angry and concerned for the firefighters. Skilled and on flat plane with less than 15kt winds a few firefighters could possibly manually extinguish a fire by disassembling and breaking up the sections that are on fire. Without water in these windy conditions is impossible to so much without water. And with many of these area the houses are multi level and terraced, making it impossible to extinguish manually. It's impossible what they expect these firefighters to do in some of these areas.

“We were ready — just not with an adequate emergency water system” huh?

Well? It's called Hollywood, not Fire-resistance-wood.

Just kidding, looking at the online reactions I think Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom will have to apply water to burned areas, but this time it’s themselves.

They didn't want to offend the water.

Of course people are protecting their property. Where is the governor? What is he doing?

Not when Newsome allows water to be directed into the ocean. Verses building reservoirs

They did no land management, those hills were nothing but dry brush like Lahaina, and Insurance being cancelled just one month before proves it was a planned, controlled burn for Black Rock to take all the land and you will have to lease your property from them.

🔌🎇Each burning EV is a unneccessary complication.
