I’m pretty sure the “precursors” isn’t actually their name, it’s the name humanity gave them because of how ancient their technology is and how little humanity knows of them.
And I’m pretty sure the precursors can see more then us as I’m certain Al-an questions our human limitations while he’s in our head and that was one of them. Plus their appearance is completely fabricated, their bodies weren’t created from millions of years of evolution, they literally designed what they considered to be the most efficient body which they most likely took heavy inspiration from their original body but it’s still extremely modified

Love this theory. But I think they were called precursors before (they are officially the architects) because they were on 4546B before humans were. So they are our precursors as explorers on that planet.

I like how in the first Subnautica game our character forms a bond with the Sea Emperor Leviathan, which was used by the precursors to try synthesizing a cure. But in Below Zero, the character forms a bond with a precursor itself.

It makes more sense that since the precursors are aware of Earth and have visited us that they gifted us some of their knowledge rather than the other way around. Nothing about their technology, writing or mentality suggests they ever expected to inherit the galaxy to another species. In fact their natural form (assuming Alan's body mimics it) is not even humanoid, and they are clearly comfortable with full cyberization / singularity. Their buildings don't give off a human vibe, they look more like Necron tombs than anything a human would feel happy to live in

They're not human, relax. They just happened to have observed and archived some of human culture and knowledge (as seen from the artifacts in the enforcer platform). We address them as precursors simply because they used to be on 4546B. For their language, we know they mainly use something like morse codes (seen from warpers and the sos signal) likely for the purpose of making it possible for other species to understand them
