Pancreatic Islet Transplantation for Type 1 Diabetes – Bench to Bedside
Показать описание
Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease where the patient’s body has attacked its own insulin-producing cells. It largely starts in childhood and is treated with insulin injections. An alternative approach is transplant – either of the whole pancreas, a major operation, or the much less invasive transplantation of islet cells (the islets of Langerhans). This talk by Paul Johnson (Professor of Paediatric Surgery at the University of Oxford and a Fellow and Clinical Tutor at St Edmund Hall) discusses the development of this treatment and its future potential.
