This Everton side proved what you can achieve with canny signings like Paul Power, Alan Harper added to regulars in a top side, able to challenge for honours. Even Kevin Langley who came from Wigan and whose stay at the club was short lived, didn't look out of place amongst so many top players on show here.
Everton's recruitment policy in recent years has been abysmal, and costly.
Uncharacteristically, Liverpool lost at home to Wimbledon in the new year then at Coventry and Man Utd which Everton took advantage of with wins at Chelsea and Arsenal that took them on to winning the league with a big contribution from another canny signing Wayne Clarke.
I always felt had he been signed a bit earlier, he would have been a great foil for Gary Lineker, and later Adrian Heath, as unlike Graeme Sharp he was a natural goal scorer who would be a success even in 2022.

this was my first and only time in that Park End terrace, worst view ever. I'd been hoping to get onto that ledge at the back but they'd taken it away!

47 wins each after this match - if only Howard could have stayed on. Refreshed the team after winning the league, we’d have been competitive at the top into the 90’s.

Typical, the one derby I got tickets for in the 80s.

Match of the Day is rubbish now they should go back to showing one main match and only highlights of the goals from the rest of the games. Far too much analysis in the studio as well would rather see more action
