This is some real life stuff right here. Especially the part where she was like yeah I went through all that but… I could be pregnant again.

“Why was Ernie the exterminator honking at you?” I freaking love this movie. I remember when Portman was doing press for the movie, she said she’d never been into a Walmart until this role. I think at the time, NY didn’t have a Walmart

I saw this movie as a kid and remember someone said Thelma was the one who closed the storm door in order to protect her friends.

Our professor showed this movie to us during my sophomore year in college. It was a Child Development class, and it really hit me hard. You know thát it’s something that would happen to anyone. It’s life. It’s ugly. it’s beautiful. Unpredictable. This is an underrated film.

One of the best lines from this movie/book: Sister Thelma is a recovering alcoholic, after Americus is abducted, police are taking Thelma’s statement, and ask her if one of her friends from AA could’ve taken the baby, Thelma replies “We’re alcoholics, we’re generally just satisfied with hurting ourselves “

The lawyer who brings Novalee the news that Thelma left everything to Novalee, Thelma was his sponsor

I remember watching this movie as a kid and loved it. I was too young to remember the name. I have been looking for this movie for years and could never find it that I convinced myself that I might have imagined it. I'm am so glad I finally found it

One of my favourite Natalie Portman films - the other one been "Anywhere but Here" with the wonderful Susan Sarandon.

This film had a truly fantastic cast and a heartwarming story. I've actually never read the book, but I'm gonna look it up now.

Thank you for the recap. 😁

This is such a cute movie and the book is very good as well. And the song the shitty ex boyfriend sings in the movie is actually great and really catchy!

Too bad you can't live in Walmart in this era. Living inside a store would be fun and awesome.

Honestly what is the point of the ex boyfriend's storyline to continue after he abandons her at Walmart.
