AI is massively transforming our world, but there's one thing it cannot do: love. In a visionary talk, computer scientist Kai-Fu Lee details how the US and China are driving a deep learning revolution -- and shares a blueprint for how humans can thrive in the age of AI by harnessing compassion and creativity. "AI is serendipity," Lee says. "It is here to liberate us from routine jobs, and it is here to remind us what it is that makes us human."

The TED Talks channel features the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes (or less). What a beautiful talk. This is the first time I have heard a discussion of the difference between AI and humanity that identifies one of great differences between machines and humans. As we reach toward Strong and Super strong AI, we are at risk of being caught up in a wave of reductionism and depair. Who are we when computers can do everything better than we humans? We have eliminated our justification for being - as we know it now. Dr Kai-Fu Lee has inspired us break out of reductionism and materialism as a limiting definition of humanity, to embrace our capacity for love, compasssion and creativity. Thank you sir. I am inspired.

As someone who understand how hard a battle against a severe disease can be, the part where he talks about his cancer and death were very emotional, I am so happy that his cancer is in remission, I mean if anyone deserve to be in good health it's a man who has worked so hard to change humanity like this guy. We should always be thankful for hard working people in tech changing our world for the better.

A lot of those 'compassionate jobs' shown in the chart are currently very badly paid at minimum wage levels. Will society see the value in them to pay them enough? I agree with the speaker that these jobs should be valued and expanded - but they will need to well paid or no one will do them. Not everyone will be capable of undertaking more highly paid creative/strategic jobs, and I doubt there would be a case for increasing the number of those jobs significantly.

Consider the care system for the older people in society. Currently our old people are rotting away in 'care' homes, or even their own homes, with very little 'compassionate' human contact. Ignoring their families, those 'caring' for them are low paid and unmotivated; the environments they work in are falling apart and there isn't enough money in the system to give our older people the quality of life they deserve.

There is an imbalance in relation to where society's 'wealth' is going. Wealth currently is sitting in the top 1-3% in society rather than being fairly distributed to create a better quality of life for all.

In the coming decades, this redistribution of wealth will have to happen to avoid extreme social strife.

He sees the positive side of AI, but there is also a negative one. There are a lot of negative comments here, but
I would say that what he is proposing (Accept AI and also love more) is THE ONLY REALISTIC and profitable way to face what's coming over us, which is indeed risky and complicated, to say the least. I wud add: WE NEED TO LEARN ABOUT AI and also LEARN MORE ABOUT OURSELVES. We always forget the Inner side of things and only look outwards.

I've heard about this idea before that AI can't replace jobs that needs creativity and human emotion. But you make it more real and concrete by the graph and the categorization. Great talk!

Great Talk, But one thing I need to mention here, I am 14 years old from India, I am developing AI TA's, AI Teaching Robots Using Reiforcement Learning, using deep learning for my products like speech recognition, object detection and etc, and It's now 2 years old video, If I see the stats in India, AI is being explored even with kids, now, class 8ther, 9ther knows advanced calculus, I think India will be next superpower in terms of AI, I teach AI on Newera, soon this words will be true.

I agree with Mr. Kai-Fu the eternal problem is not AI is humans most of us only think of ourselves and the fact that many people want always more and they don't care about the rest having less is the problem. But I think that even in this model, the people at the bottom is always improving their situation every year and I hope to see one day, that the poorest person in the world can live with what would be today the minimum standard of a decent life.

The top two questions I always hear where I live are "Where are you from" and "What do you do?" (Referring to employment).

We have a long way to go. Our meritocracy is rooted firmly in our "financial contribution" to society.

"only the creative jobs are safe, because AI can only optimize not create"

How that statement is now doubted in 4 year's time. Came here to prepare a presentation on GPT. :)
