Plex DVR Install for Live TV

you can delete it by clicking the ... button in the view where you can see all your movies. It only works if you are signed in as the owner account (The account that the server is signed in to).

I can tell you as an engineer at a local TV station that amplified antennas can cause more problems than they solve. We have had viewers who call tell us that it is our problem and after we tell them to unplug the amplifier the problem goes away. The reason being if you are amplifying noise then you are not helping your reception. The only time you want to amplify the signal is if you have a good signal (using an outdoor antenna) but it is just weak or you are splitting it to many TVs.

That particular Mohu Sky Antenna is a really good Antenna. Probably one of the best and easiest to deal with.

I used the DVR feature when it first came out and was less than impressed. I switched to Tivo for its simple and effective interface for TV, and I can run Plex on the Tivo and I can easily delete-schedule shows, so can my 79 yo mother :) Great video, show us some more as you learn more :)

I think putting the antenna in the roof space pointing towards the television transmitters should give you the best signal strength.

Suggestion: Use more Cat 5 and less coax. Move your HDHomerun closer to the antenna. This will reduce signal loss from your coaxial cable. You might even pull in more stations by mounting the antenna in the attic...

an alternative to change the ownership could be to scedule a cron-job hourly or daily to change the ownership of the folder recursively

That was really helpful. The Extend model is great for transcoding to stream to mobile devices. But, strangely, the Extend model uses the weaker WiFi spec 802.11. Even though it's the premium model. Whereas the regular model uses the superior spec 802.11ac. Given that a server Plex would be transcoding itself 'on the fly' in order to stream to mobile devices, wouldn't this negate the benefit of the Extend's transcoding feature? Sorry if I'm missing something!

I added an older 802.11N router I had lying around reconfigured as an AP in the part of the house with the best TV antenna signal and located the HD Homerun there so I had a very short coax run and got the added benefit of some extra wired and wireless connections. All that and just one good quality Cat 6 cable to run back to the server. Am going to try out the same thing using a dd-wrt based router set up as a wireless repeater and see if it will maintain signal and lose the wire altogether.

Don't know what setting you had your camera on in the 1st part of the video, but your youtube counter clock wasn't flickering then. In the 2nd part of it, it was. Might want to check to see what setting you had for your videos from now on.

Great video on your Plex and DVR/Live TV setup. Def want to see (hopefully in-depth) a setup of whatever plex script that is to cut out commercials! Might have to try that antenna up in my attic.

Would it be possible for you to start doing Plex server build videos? Maybe once a month and different ranges (from budget, to Zeus). Would love to see that.

To change the owner change you can use the command chown or just mount that share as a user or admin user on the plex. I think it would depend on what nas your using.

"chown" should let you change file owner ship, if plex continues to do that, you may want to set an auto script to chown the whole directory recursively.

Joking aside, thanks for the update! Have been contemplating adding DVR capability to my PLEX setup. I've been really interested in doing a whole-house antenna mount in the attic or elsewhere out of the way and pushing the main input signal to the regular "cable" switching box so I can have both DVR to the PLEX server and live TV available to all the rooms in the house, too.

You can delete from Plex. The option is not turned on. To turn it on, go to Setting => Settings => Library = > [check] Allow Media Deletion. This give you the option delete when you hit [...] in the episode.
