The opening hatchway action is done at the end of your move. You move within 1" of a door then stop, you can then open the door, but cannot move through the door until your next movement phase. If there is an enemy model within 1" the other side of that door, then you roll off to see if the open door action is successful or not.

In the Open Hatchway Section of Abaddon Book it states the Open Hatchway Action can be performed despite any other rules that would prevent you to do so. The only stipulation that prevents you from being able to complete this action is being within engagement range. At least that is rules as written and makes sense to the way the game plays. Hope that helps. I have played through the missions in Angron and Abandon, they are very fun. Angron is less balanced but more thematic. The lore in Abandon is a good set-up for the story. The lore in Angron and Vashtorr has are pretty good but the endings to those books are questionable.
