Remember those three Sunsoft games I talked about in the past? Yes? No? It doesn't matter! They've all gotten rereleases and sequels confirmed! Who could have imagined such a thing!?

This video is NOT an ad, I just care about these silly little games. However, it's still good practice to link to whatever games I'm talking about.

3:51 I've found that a lot of musical "flexing" for lack of a better word has shifted to just sheer complexity as audio quality standardized. Things like Pikmin 4's overworld songs having a unique instrument layer for *every single type of enemy that can appear* which plays when they're nearby, or the sheer amount of variations in overworld themes and battle phase transitions of Paper Mario: The Origami King (8-Bit Music Theory has a great video going over some of this).

Also, if you want a true "HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE ON THIS CONSOLE" soundtrack, Lagrange Point is an NES game. It is absurd what they put out with that soundtrack.

my main gripe with gimmick 2 is how the level design doesnt look to be as organic as in the original game. everything served a purpose in gimmick and the world felt alive and realistic. gimmick 2 looks like video game levels in a video game. although with a different team and tomomi sakai not being the director, i can accept the new teams vision for making a game that they want to make

Man, I remember when I saw the announcement of the re-release, I immediately thought of your videos. Ended up snagging ps4 collector's edition of Trip World mainly due to the plushie.
This video is my first time hearing of the sequels, and when you said David Wise was doing the OST for Gimmick, I paused the video, mouth wide open, letting that information sink in.

I would argue people should still pirate Gimmick! because of how much of a rip-off the Perfect Edition is just a bog-standard emulated ROM when I know there's just a better version that has existed for years out there called *_"Gimmick! EXACT☆MIX!"_* which is a full-on 1:1 remake with enhanced visuals and sound (and you can still use the original graphics/sound) but it's exclusive to some arcade board-like thing-y called *_"exA Arcadia"_* where just the game cartridge costs *fucking $1200* (even though it's a PC-based system, the game is running on Windows). Then the price would be far better justified.

But outside of that, the game I really wish Sunsoft would bring up with a sequel/remake would be *_Atlantis no Nazo, _* where the focus still is about (slightly less) obtuse exploration but without any of the clunkiness of its platforming and combat

Little Samson is another amazing and impressive obscures NES game that released at the end of the consoles lifespan. It is one of if not the most expensive retail NES games out there. It was made by Taito if I remember correctly and there’s no official rerelease or sequels out there.
