I have the first iteration of this bag (Same name, minus the "Ultra"). Definitely a let down with the water bottle pocket, but, I also tend to carry a half gallon or more sized bottle of water with me, so the Tumi pockets wouldn't have made much more of a difference for me.

I've found success using the clips on the side or the hooks for the shoulder strap to connect water bottles. It'll either house that or my headphones. I definitely want to pick up this bag soon, as I love my OG Flyby.

AND, as a testament to the build quality, I was in an accident in 2020 where my car flipped over a few times, and in the bag was this bag, a DDJ SX-3 flight case (Shelf version), several other bags, and random items. EVERYTHING inside my Flyby was perfectly fine. It withstood the tumble of the accident, and the shattered rear windshield with glass everywhere. Only damage was one of the front pockets was sliced on the side.

So for me, the value has been higher than initial cost.

Totally Agree - I’ve owned two Mono backpacks and the side pockets are the most frustrating. I also want MONO to re-release the bag with larger side bags to hold my Nalgene bottle.

I’ve used the original fly-by for at least 8 years, quality and ease of use are excellent. Eventually the zippers started having troubles but I’d already had years of use, so definitely amazing quality for money.

I agree totally that the side pockets are a pain to access and too short to fit an average size water bottle, which is unfortunately the same with this ultra version.

In short, best backpack ever, works out to be quite cheap if it can be used for such a long time.

Unfortunately, I live in Europe and they could only be purchased in the USA and shipping was quite expensive. Maybe they’re available over here now

James Hype uses the Tumi Alpha 3 Brief Pack as a DJ bag, very expensive but i think that might be the perfect DJ bag

So... with the fly by ultra, isn't it a bit of a worry to have a zipper connecting 2 backpacks, when clearly the front half will have more weight? Wish the click-in straps covered that, so the zipper teeth didn't hold all of the weight.

The one nearly universal complaint about the original FlyBy was about the side pockets. So what does Mono do with the most-asked-for upgrade when designing a new, upgraded FlyBy? They completely ignore it.

Anyone else find the should straps to not be adjustable enough? Feels like the back back sits too low on my back and it’s on the tightest “setting”.

Just got mine, and I didn't notice the clips that connect the straps to the bottom of the bag before buying. I don't know how I feel about it, but I'll roll with it for now. My question to you: have you had any trouble out of the clips themselves? I kinda think they're chintzy/flimsy, but if they're solid they're solid. Thank you!

What was your experience flying with this bag? Would you separate the bags or fit the whole thing under your seat?
