Three ways to attach a leader to a fly line

How do you attach a leader to your fly line? It’s easy if you already have a permanent loop on your fly line, and only slightly more complicated if your fly line has no loop on it, or if the loop on your fly line broke. And don’t worry, we’ll also show you how to tie a nail knot and a perfection loop in this video so you have all the information you need.

If your fly line doesn't have a loop on the end would you try tying a Perfection loop in that? I tried (my first time tying a Perfection loop) and it was very big and bulky so decided to go with a nail knot instead. I'm still curious though for next time

Getting back into fly fishing after about 30 years of not doing it. I wasn't particularly accomplished at it before, but having to get fresh line on the reel & leaders/tippets tied & such, I was failing.

This video made the joining of line a cinch!

Personally, I've followed @Domenick Swentosky's advice from Troutbitten and now use a clinch knot to the welded loop. It's the bomb, especially when using rods with very small tip guides where a loop to loop can get hung up or worse...

Great video..I never knew how to tie a nail knot nor did I know the correct way to fasten a leader to fly line. My fly line does not have the loop on the end so I tied the leader on the best way I could and ended up with a functional but too large of a knot. I needed to replace the leader so following this video I was able to finally attach a leader the right way with a nice elegant nail knot. I bookmarked this video for future reference.
