I didn't file a single tax income from age 18 to like 30. Drug addiction. Didn't care at the time. Been filing last 4-5 years and been fine, so far

I have a daughter, rent a property, own a car and all. I was slapped with a $5, 000 tax bill. Paid it off within 8 months, didn’t have to struggle. This is the epitome of not having responsibility

Could anyone from America confirm why wouldn’t the IRS be chasing you for the money, I’m from the UK and the majority of people wouldn’t need to submit their own taxes but those that do need to do a tax return to the HMRC and the penalties are stiff if you don’t pay

Its so dumb to me how taxes work in America. In my country, they just withdraw it and my statutory deductions from my salary each month. If i were self employed i would have to file it myself though.

I’m a CPA, and I have a buddy that hasn’t filed in like 6 years. He would have most likely gotten a refund, as well as all the Covid stimulus checks. I told him I’d do them for free if he just gave me his stuff, and he just never did. I understand not having the money to pay, but the IRS is not to be messed with. They will get their money eventually…plus interest.
