Tom Jones to Get His DNA Tested for Black Ancestry

Singer Tom Jones plans to get his DNA tested to find out if he has some black ancestry, he told The Times of London magazine in an interview published Saturday. The 75-year-old Welshman gained international fame in a career that has spanned over 50 years with hits like “It’s Not Unusual,” “What’s New Pussycat” and “She’s a Lady.” Jones, whose parents were Welsh and English, said his signature baritone voice and thick, curly hair has prompted questions about his race for years. “A lot of people still think I’m black,” Jones said.

I remember when I was a young girl, my family used to say he was Black. He looks Black to me. I have a plethora of Black family members who look like him.

Hey, what's really crazy is that there are some people that feel that until the horrors of slavery that Europeans and Africans never got together. Have you ever asked yourselves why some Sicilians are so dark. They didn't own Africans as slaves and some of them have African ancestry, imagine that. It wasn't just slavery it was a case of liking what you like.

All I know is that he's one of the best performers in the world. I watch his TV show when I was a kid and loved. TJ was an exciting entertainer, fantastic vice and danced like the devil. 💛

yes, occurred to me it was a real possibility! sometimes those genetics can kick in from even thousands of years ago! so, you just never know!

one ethnic group i was always curious about, i learned - after digging deep into the research - that they shared some genetic markers with certain groups in Africa. 😃
