Labyrinthitis and Vertigo (BPPV): Hazel's story | NHS

Показать описание

Labyrinthitis is an inner ear infection.

It causes a delicate structure deep inside your ear called the labyrinth to become inflamed, which affects your hearing and balance.

Vertigo is a symptom, rather than a condition itself. It's the sensation that you, or the environment around you, is moving or spinning.

This feeling may be barely noticeable, or it may be so severe that you find it difficult to keep your balance and do everyday tasks.

Attacks of vertigo can develop suddenly and last for a few seconds, or they may last much longer. If you have severe vertigo, your symptoms may be constant and last for several days, making normal life very difficult.

Thank you for sharing - I’m into day 5 of my very first terrifying episode - praying that medication and therapy improves my condition - I can’t imagine living my life like this until the end of my days- the anxiety and fear that emanates from the constant waves of nausea and dizziness is utterly debilitating- I wouldn’t wish this abhorrent feeling on anyone - last couple of days I’ve had so much pressure in both my ears and back front of head. Am taking high levels of prednisone serc and stemetil- thankful they a brain CT scan did not determine any nasties - I keep repeating this too shall pass. Am wondering if my case of shingles a couple of months ago would have brought this on? Cannot wait to see a vestibular physiotherapist in 2 days time for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Visiting a local chiropractor who performed the Epley manoeuvre twice only worsened my symptoms

Oh how I can (like so many others) relate to this. Vertigo is an awful problem to have.
Exercises can and do help. Even when you feel better, you must keep doing them.

Ive had this on and off for 10 years. Im 46 and this year has been horrific. I suffer every 4-6 weeks for about 7 days. I feel breathless dizzy and so poorly. Finally referred to a ENT which has a 10 month waiting list. I just cant go on anymore 😢

Had this God damn illness out of nowhere
At October 2017
No symptoms at prior days no nothing
The only thing I can remember after this is some days before it strikes I had constantly headaches
And slightly ear echo from time to time
But nothing really disturbing
Woke up one morning and BOOM
A lot of dizziness deteriorates fast to vertigo
Legs start shaking
Heart rate increases
I fell down at the floor holding it
Cause of the uncontrollable spinning
Never experienced anything like this before in my life
Thought it was stroke or heart failure?
My Husband was terrified call 911
And then I start vomiting
Omg
Can't describe all this continued vomit
Unstoppable and inside the ambulance
Inside the hospital
It was a living nightmare
Hearing loss 40% in one ear
Which luckily it came back after treatment
In about one and half month
I recovered in 3-4 months
But indeed it took a year
I feel for people has passing through this torture
It, s not a lethal disease
But I, d prefer to have both of my legs broken
Instead of have half of this terrible thing again

I had a violent vertigo attack 21 months ago and been VERY dizzy EVERYDAY since then. I'm 70 and with other health issues it's hard to do those vestibular exercises. Some days I just want to die because I feel life is not worth living anymore. There's nothing to look forward to. I can't go anywhere ever. Riding in the car makes me nauseated. I have doubts I will ever get better. I have seen 2 ENT's and two physical therapists that did the Epley menuver on me. It didn't help. No one has been able to help me.😞

I've had dizziness and off balance severely for 39 weeks solid and my pathetic joke of a GP has completely failed to help me in any way shape or form! I've begged for help, i can't go to work, drive and become pretty much housebound at 45 years old! My GP is not fit for purpose and i'm going to make it my mission to get him struck off!

there are alternatives. i buy cannibas oil based spray from switzlerland. it is safe and has natural ingredients that help clear sinuses. in my case it lowered the horrible tinnitus i had for over 20 years too. look around for alternatives that are both safe and effective.

I had some really bad bouts of vertigo lasting up to 12 hours, sometimes with vomiting. Then I am unsteady for a few weeks. It seemed to go away and I thought if it ever recurred I could not cope with it.Basically contemplating suicide, that's how bad it was.During the attacks I have to lie absolutely still with closed eyes, but I can't stop my eyes desperately trying to regain focus.Anyway it has returned but not as bad as previously. It has taken everything from me.

I’ve had chronic vertigo for three years now, but I can’t find anyone with the same feeling as mine. I get the occasional spinning one, but mine feels like someone has grabbed my head and dropped me back on my feet. It will be a sudden feeling as if I’ve missed a step, or like that feeling when you wake up out of your sleep like you’re falling. If I need to lift myself up to get comfy, once I raise up, it feels like something is pulling me upwards. I’m to afraid of the doctors to go, and it had been fairly manageable until this year. This all began in November of 2020.

I ended up in hospital with this came out of nowhere, started being dizzy room spinning sick for 25-26 hours could not walk, ended up on the stroke ward at first, lasted 8-9 days constant. Now a few more weeks down the line walking okay still have a constantly cloudy feeling in my head. Been diagnose with this condition. It's horrid the closest feeling is like the first time you get seriously drunk and the world spins and you projectile vomit but last days not hours.
