If you have the time and resources I would try to DIY some of the simpler things in the future. There are many E39 YouTube videos on oil changes, windshield trim replacement, brakes, etc. Some of these things are easier than you'd think :)

Those prices you got are pretty high. If you went the DIY route, it would probably cost less than half of what they quoted you. That being said, I don’t have an M5 but I have an ‘03 540i M-Sport and aside from the engine and a few other bits, they’re pretty identical and pretty easy maintenance wise. The simplicity and fairly easy maintenance is why the E39 chassis and other BMWs from this era rocks!

My friend they robbed you on the windshield seal. Its dirt cheap direct from bmw think about £45 and all you do is pull old one off and squeeze on the new one. Took me 1/2 hour. Beautiful car though.
