Bigger pro tournaments no longer really have full brackets quater finals. The best team usually go straight to semi finals.

Another guess would be loser/winner brackets playoffs not really a thing anymore, which i think resulted in more games.

Here's my take: Back in the days there used to be _a lot_ of round robin as the format in group stages. With todays swiss setups less matches are inevitable.

These days youd be more and more hard pressed to get top 75 best players to attend <100k usd tournaments, which was more likely when the game was younger = more lans played/ more competition in the lan org market

personally i think alot of pros are potentially just staying away from public matches due to the increased cheater problem. doing more private scrims or 3rd party sites that actually have an anti cheat is most likely where they are
