Online Nikah in Pakistan:

Online marriage (Nikah Online) in Pakistan, which is also known as Online Shadi or Online Nikaah, is an opportunity provided by Pakistani law for overseas who can not attend their marriage ceremonies in Pakistan. In traditional marriage, both bride and groom are required to be present at the time of marriage. However, online marriage can be solemnized through the internet by appointing a lawyer as an attorney or proxy in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Muslim Family Law Ordinance 1961 and Family Courts Act 1964 provide this convenience of Nikah Online to overseas Pakistanis. Moreover, the Sharia (Hanafi and Jafria School of Thoughts) also permits the Online Nikah which makes it acceptable by legal as well as the sharia laws.

Registration of Nikah online /marriage in Pakistan is mandatory. It is not necessary that both, the female and male should be Pakistani citizens. Rather, if any of the spouses is a Pakistani citizen, then they can register their online marriage (Nikah) in Pakistan.

Without the consent of Wali’, a sui juris Muslim female can enter into a valid online Nikah/marriage of her own free will.
“Under Islamic law, both male and female have the right to contract offline or online marriage with their own free will, and their life is protected under Article 35 of the Constitution”. (Lahore High Court)

Online Nikah Service is a unique opportunity for all those Pakistanis who live abroad and cannot attend their marriage or due to some reasons they cannot physically participate in the Nikah process.

So, no Wali is required to perform online Nikah in Pakistan. A special clause has been introduced in the Pakistani Nikahnama which talks about appointing Vakeel / Representatives on behalf of marrying couples.
