In this episode I am kicking off an experiment comparing the growth of two chilli pepper plants, one grown inside my greenhouse and the other grown outdoors in a raised bed.

Thank you for watching!
Does your climate allow you to grow outdoors all season?

Should be a fun experiment! I'm excited to see the difference since I only have the ability to grow outdoors currently.

We got the Saharan heatwave coming up in the Northern-Europe. in Estonia it's +32C for the next 4 days or so. My plants are loving it! most of them are behind the window in the same 10L pots you use. I don't have too many plants - like 40 max. One of the ghost peppers is outside by the wall in a 55L tub. I hope its gonna take off soon! been giving my plants compost teas from the concentrate from a local vermicompost maker, they use some special species of worms.

Ladybird larva (aka “ladybug” in N. America and maybe South Africa) are voracious predators of aphids - very useful in the greenhouse! Thanks for the video. I’m going to keep my chillis in my mini-poly tunnel now after wondering how they would do outside.

Love the slow-mo shot of the water droplets at the end there!

I usually grow outside in fabric pots (UK) as I think they help with the drainage when we get this much rain. This year I put 15 plants in 7.5L plastic pots, I lost 9 and the rest were severely set back as a result. The plants in the fabric pots all survived and have done loads better, but I'm nowhere near where I usually am in June.
I also decided to try a Brain Strain Yellow in a 50L barrel outside (hydro solar pump). This plant is doing really well but I've already had to change out the neuts because they got so diluted with the rain. Wish I had room for a greenhouse.. even a small one.

It will be interesting to follow your updates on the poblanos. I have similar situation with cgn peppers from your seedpack. One is outside, another inside. The one inside the greenhouse grows much better but the one outside seems to have started few peppers. They are so small that I am still not sure if they are buds or pods 😃

I look forward to seeing how they compete against each other. I just moved all my Ancho Poblanos outside last weekend. I have two in one area in the yard and 2 in another. Kind of doing a similar experiment. They both get a lot of sun but one is more protected from weather. It will be interesting to see how they grow this year. Thank you for sharing Shaun! You know I love your content.! Your the man - v/r Shane AKA Murdog4

I live in northern New York.
I can tell you now my potted peppers are doing better than my in ground peppers.
I have never successfully had peppers fully ripen.
My thought is the container is heating up and staying hotter for longer .
I also read that root bound peppers will set fruit .
I am going to use this to my benefit next year as this year it seemed to be a bad thing and was encouraged to pick off the flowers . I wish i hadnt done that and instead looked at it from a different perspective. It could have made the difference between picking green peppers or red ones.
I also have 2 pepper plants in 2 different buckets . One is by itself and is a pimento while the other is packed with 3 pepper plants 2 Tabasco 1 pimento and even a melon that snuck in. Now I hope ur still with me ....im going to put one on the driveway and one in the grass. Id like to see if the heat absorbed by the driveway will help my peppers through our cooler summers and fall weather.
But as of now my bucket peppers are about 2 weeks ahead of my ungrounded peppers

Thanks for the great video! I’m excited to see the update on the progress!
Since you just said you owned 180 chilli plants alone and keep most of them potted in the greenhouse, I was wondering what you’re doing with all the used soil at the end of the season. Do you reuse it sometime or do you compost it? I think it is especially interesting, because you also add perlite and possibly vermiculite.

interesting study! My Army of anti aphids/other bugs is swarms of the tiny parasitic wasps. They total destroyed the small numbers of aphids I have had. Those bloated parasitized (sp?) brown aphids are definitely interesting looking. I did not buy them, they showed up when I companion planted flowers/herbs that attract them. (My plants are in raised beds)

I grow inside and outside and during the winter with my indoor LED grow light have to admit i much prefer to grow inside, outside i am constantly fighting against bugs although it is free energy and i get a good crop, inside for myself is easier to control the environment, wish i had a green house

I would love to see the results of this vs one plant outdoors in a fabric grow pot. My chili's in a grow pot get 3 times the size of the ones planted in my raised bed. I believe it may have something to do with the warmer soil and faster drying times of water.
