1940’s one is brighter and sounds sweeter. Very pleasant to the ear. The new one sounds muffled, warmer, and not even close to as pleasant! Sounds like the 1940 one if I were to cover my ears lol.

The gloss does it man- I would love to see a new gloss vs old gloss

What if you put those strings that’s on the old ukulele and put them on the new Martin? Looks like Aquila brand strings on the old Martin which have a very bright tone where the newer Martin looks to have the average looking strings? Idk just a thought for better comparison?

Hoping that the centennial 1 I just got made from 100 pluss year old wood will be great! 2 G's is a lot for me to drop on a uke

No comparison. The vintage has a MUCH better sound in every department.
I find the new one to be compressed, dull, no detail, and a muddy C string.

1940s way better. Could be the aging of the wood. Guitars typically sound better old too

older is much better, louder more open and articulate, new is compressed and softer

Yes, the new one is noticeably subdued. Not bad, just subdued.
