How to bypass the parking brake lock on an Alpine stereo receiver.
Note: At the end of the video I said OBDII connection 4 or 5, that should be 5 or 6.

Almost forgot great job on explaining how switches work. As a mechanic and electrician I already know but it is great info for the people that don't know.

You DO NOT have to wire to OBD2 harness guys. FIRST huge credit given to Brock. Much deserved dude. Honestly never could've done it without your discovery of the HU requiring a switched signal.

That said, I installed mine today. I watched this video then I experimented around myself. I asked myself, if it does not require a live current but only a open/closed signal, why not just wire to same chassis of vehicle with a toggle switch in the circuit?

Voila, your welcome guys. Ground to chassis with a simple toggle on/off switch. Thanks again Brock.

There's such a thing as a momentary off switch. The circuit is normally closed, but it opens while the switch is held. This is the best way to do this.

IT WORKS EXACTLY HOW YOU EXPLAINED IT! I connected a switch between the yellow/blue from the harness and a wire to the 5 pin on my OBDII and I've got all functions working perfectly! Thanks for the video and how you nicely detailed the procedure!

If this works for me I'll be so happy after installing this thing for a week I wanna be done. Lol. (Didn't hook speakers up at first, didn't realize it till afterwards, plus got snow storms that delayed the project in progress.) That's why it took a week for those wondering. Now I just have this issue left to fix.

Edit: update, it worked for me by attaching the wire shown in the video to any bare metal or screw head that connects directly to the body of my car. So seems like as long as it's a ground point it'll work.

Nice work around I was about to just tie it into remote might work but might not. This video just saved me the time of finding out if it might or might not work and going with a way that does work. Lol thanks for saving me some time.

Wow thank you so much Brock I installed my ALPINE ilxf259 myself my settings and stuff wasn't accessible and I didn't think I needed the parking break wire hooked up but when I connected it to my obd2 it worked perfectly Thank God I didn't have to rip apart everything THANKS

Just a small hack that worked on my dual radio was that when I touched the wire that goes to the parking brake on the metal bracket on the radio it worked. So I just grounded it to the radio and could watch movies when in any gear

Thank you! You are the man of the stupid safety switch. Made it very easy

Just wanted to say this helped me out. I had wired the switch to the ground wire on the radio and that wasn’t working! Ran it from the OBD2 and it was smooth.

Another option if you have it, wire it to the illumination wire and you can access your settings any time you turn your headlights off!

Much appreciated, works like a charm!

This definitely works and if everyone tried I’m sure you see that. Thank you for your assisting clarifications.

They make a alpine micro bypass for 13 bucks on ebay and Amazon. Very easy to wire up. Blue wire to blue white alpine remote wire. Yellow wire to yellow blue alpine parking brake wire. And black to alpine black ground wire. Green only hook up if your alpine has it. Your ilx w650 doesn't so leve green unhooked. I have the newer model of yorh stereo the ilx w670 and it works great. No need for a switch. Just turn radio on and every time you have all controls and can passenger can watch video while driving. Don't watch while driving of course. But this works. Complete bypass parking break

I would be really careful grabbing ground at the OBD2 connector. Especially if it's a data ground. Because those grounds don't go directly to the Battery. They go through the computer first. So that could very easily fry your computer.

Just run that wire to a toggle switch or push button and ground the other side of the switch and mount the switch right next to the radio.

What signal does the wire want a positive or negative? What is pin 5 on the dlc positive or negative? I've wasted a lot of time watching multiple videos and no will just say hey this wire wants to see a ground or battery voltage or 5volt reference nothing

Hey in theory... You could use the regular push button wired into the OBD 2 all the time... You could use the unit regularly without pushing the button EVERY time you turned the car on... but if you wanted to access the settings, diagnostics, or video you would then have to push the button. Right?

Do you plan to put the actual bypass you ordered in? I just bought this radio today and didn’t realize I needed one.
