There are several signs: In my experience these are the red flags.
1.) They come on VERY strong!
2.) They lost their wives and or children, they have NO family.
3.) They want you off the dating site pretty quick, where they ask for your email address like within the first time they chat.
4.) They are in the military serving in Afghanistan or Nigeria. They’ll be in the states and want to meet up with you.
5.) They want a serious relationship like marriage!
6.) They May start to ask for pictures.... sometimes provocative ones !
7.) They start telling you a sad story about a mishap they had, wallet stolen, illness in family, need of a so on and so on!!! I could write a book! Jonathan !

When scammers ask you for money, just tell them, "it's funny that you asked because I was gonna ask you the same thing."

I rooted out a scammer pretending to be a pilot. I asked him a few aviation questions that he could not answer.

They give you pictures of 2 different people, won't specify where they work, they immediately ask you to go in a texting app. I've seen it all

They also often claim to be a serviceman deployed to some remote location, which they do, presumably, to account their inability to Facetime/Zoom.

I did a FaceTime call within 3 or 4 days. He matched the pictures. He was a “widower” and is traveling. LOL. I kept my spidey senseswup and then he asked for money. 💥💥

There's are plenty of ways to instantly recognize dating site scammers, or at least have your feelers out:

1. An overly simple name consisting of two first names like "John George" or "Scott William"
2. Uses the term "God fearing man" and makes sure to mention how honest and trustworthy he is.
3. Is a widower raising a child and is sure to mention that immediately.
4. Is enamored with you very quickly and writes long, pontificating paragraphs about his life and what he is looking for that feel like cut and paste.
5. Uses weird phrasing like "I am John by name"
6. Is not actually currently located in the city he lists, and he can't or won't meet for coffee but continues to write and drag things on.
7.Claims he is overseas in the military or on an oil rig (the top two scammer occupations)
8. Suddenly has a sick child that needs medical assistance that he has no money for.

Just ha one now… young good looking military person asking to befriend me. I phoned then face timed and then messaged to say I now had his IP address. He obviously didn’t answer any call( in the shower as he probably takes 20 a day).Immediately went offline and blocked . Success.

They love bomb, are "lonely", widowers, blurred pictures, no pictures, incomplete profiles, seriously GQ looking....

The scammer could use his better looking, well briefed, friend for face time or say there is an IT issue with his camera which means you are unable to see him but he can see you...

It's for this reason why I wrap myself up in a cloak of healthy scepticism and question the following:
The railways- at the very least, they won't catch on.At the worst, It's a scam.
Electricity-🤔just experimental or could just be a gimmick.
Glen Campbell when he told me that he needed me more than wanted me and that he wanted me for all time.He also told me that they were so poor when he was little that they couldn't afford electricity so had to watch TV by candlelight! What's a gurrrl to do 🤷🏾‍♀️

FT within 3 communications? I’m very leery about even giving my phone # out. What is the safest way to do this?

Why would anyone want to steal your photograph?

My brother is disabled and speaking with a scammer. I've shown him that the photo is an edited version of a d-list celebrity Pic. I've shown that nobody with that name lives where they are saying. And apparently the scammer is only able to communicate through Facebook, since they have no phone.

I see so many ways around this, but it seems impossible to communicate this to my brother. Any ideas?

Edit: I have guardianship, but have given him an allowance. He's stopped going out, or even spending money on haircuts. This person is taking the little cash he has.
