I did NOT know "slay" was that old, damn.
Edit: I'm talking about "slay" in the slang compliment in regards to fashion/beauty - I've very much aware that the verb (i.e. "to slay a dragon") is older than the US, thank you.

I used to work with an elderly nun who would cuss you out by saying "go fry ice" which on the surface seems innocuous until you realize what woukd happen if you put ice in a fryer. That little old nun was a SAVAGE.

"I'm going to go iron my shoe laces" makes more sense when you picture a 90s sitcom dad who's clearly never done his own laundry slowly rise up out of his arm chair and saddle out of the living room. It's a ridiculous euphemism only a dad would enjoy

Love this, but I love it more that you’re just casually dressed like a 1950s widow

Every generation has new slang. I absolutely love how the English language is used as a kind of rebellion against the generation above us. Never knew so much slang has stuck around since the 1920s though!

My mom uses “you slay me” all the time lol maybe it came back into fashion when she was young in the 70s and 80s

I didn’t realize that a lot of these were from the 20’s. “Crush” is one that really stood out to me.

Let’s bring back “cat’s pajamas” to say something is really cool. Pajamas for cats are indeed very cool!

I just realized the other day that "vibes" is just updated slang from hippies talking about vibrations.

We still use "iron my shoelaces" in Russia, but instead of going to the bathroom it means "it's not likely to happen".

I want to read the whole article, oh my God! It sounds so interesting. Maybe you should make a longer video about the 1920s slang?

Slay, as it's used nowadays is a bit different to 'you slay me'. The latter usually means you made me laugh
