Pines of Rome (Italian: Pini di Roma), P 141, is a tone poem in four movements for orchestra completed in 1924 by the Italian composer Ottorino Respighi. It is the second of his three tone poems about Rome, following Fontane di Roma (1916) and preceding Feste Romane (1928). Each movement depicts a setting in the city with pine trees, specifically those in the Villa Borghese gardens, near a catacomb, on the Janiculum Hill, and along the Appian Way. The premiere was held at the Teatro Augusteo in Rome on 14 December 1924, with Bernardino Molinari conducting the Augusteo Orchestra. The piece was published by Casa Ricordi in 1925.

Can't believe this is a 64 year old recording, it sounds incredible.

One of the 20th century's greatest scores. The end almost brought me to tears with its magnificence.

The first movement is so charming, and the last is so beautifully foreboding yet majestic. Resphigi is something else entirely

20:21 The last 6 measures of this should be looped and blared for at least an hour. When the low brass leads and the trumpets echo an octave higher all while obliterating any semblance of sonic oomph from the woodwinds is just great to hear.

this trilogy (especially this one) is possibly my favorite music ever written
the picture painted is so clean the tonal descriptions are incredibly vivid
respighi was an absolute genius and its sad he isnt more well known
i went to a concert where this was played once and it is one of those that i wish i could go back and hear it all over again

@6:57 is the best Trombone playing I've heard on any recording of this piece, ever. I've compared it side by side with Berlin, London, LA, New York, and *none* of them have that piercing trombone that this recording has. Truly representing Chicago Brass even before the Friedman era even began.

1959 version is way better that Fantasia 2000 version.

Cool piece, sort of feels like Stravinsky if he knew how to write a melody.

Bonjour j'aimerai savoir comment vous faites pour afficher le conducteur en temps reel, est ce avec du montage ? Merci de votre réponse cordialement
