SACRIFICE // Helldivers 2 Short Film // Blender 3D Animation

A short animation based in the world of Helldivers 2. I made this over the course of around 4 months. All 3D work was done in Blender, with compositing, editing, sound effects and colour grading done in Davinci Resolve. I am very happy with the overall look of this animation. I think it is my favourite project when it comes to environments, lighting and cinematography. The story is very basic and may not flow as well as I would like, but storytelling is something I want to improve.

Huge thanks to the members of the Helldivers Archive Disocrd server, who create and upload resources from the game for others to use. Without them, I would not be able to make use of the character, weapon or vehicle models.

Man its crazy how much some effort into sound effects can go. You really feel each of those inputs into his wrist and the booming chirp of the ball arming really tells you that there is no going back, and there is no other way. All that without a moment of dialogue. I aspire to be you, sir

This was one of the first HD animations I saw. Absolute cinema.

Reminds me of this one time. Dropped into a bug Super Helldive. We were doing pretty good, but as soon as we completed the main objective we got absolutely slammed. We were bleeding reinforcements on a running retreat to extract.

I was the newer Helldiver and I usually run RR / heavy AT. We had multiple breaches and 5 Bile Titans on the extract, we ran completely out of reinforcements and I was launched away from my ammo backpack. I threw the last reinforcement near the dropship and said "I'm gonna take care of this."

I ran underneath the bile titans toward where I knew there was an undetonated Hellbomb. I shot my last recoiless round to get one bile titan and threw grenades, sprayed my Liberator P into the hunters and brood commanders.

"I'll take care of it, just get out." They were all basically on top of me as my teammate ran into the ramp of the dropship, and I sprayed the rest of the magazine into the Hellbomb and saluted.

Blinding white flash and the camera snapped to the dropship shooting up into the sky while my teammates screamed on comms. That was an incredible moment and this brings back those memories.

I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched this. I just passed 600 hours in the game, many divers have abandoned the cause, but there are still those of us who fight on. Seriously so much beautiful storytelling in such a short amount of time.
