Just wow. It feels like every day I wake up impatiently anticipating AI to make more breakthroughs and this doesn't disappoint. We are living in a once in a generation moment.

I was waiting for this episode. Wes doesn’t disappoint when it comes to biggest and latest news

So much for an AI. Winter.... Lol.... While we're waiting around for AGI we'll just use what we have to change Everything.... This is just amazing stuff. Thanks Wes 👍

I don't know if it was the most impactful news in the field in recent days, but it was definitely the most anticipated by me. I've been saying for a while that when AI is applied to biotechnology, we could take an evolutionary leap as a species. AI has restored my faith in humanity's potential.

Designing functional proteins with such ease also means democratizing access to potent bio weapons. (Hello, open source!) It’s fascinating and very promising, but also mildly terrifying.

These things are way more important and exciting than AGI in my opinion.

Thanks for highlighting the parts you’re reading and talking about, as if I can’t read or hear.

Ngl I stopped watching your videos because every title was 'BREAKING NEWS!' and really clickbait-y, this title was a lot more calm so I clicked and enjoyed the video.

The J Craig Venter institute pioneered artificial biological life. They basically learned how to very rapidly sequence genomes and also encode genomes with their own base pair language. We all know A T C G. They used codons which are 3 of the base pairs in a row, so something like ATC, CCC, CTG, etc. They then assigned an alphabet letter to each unique codon and signed their names into the genome, making artificially reproduceable life.

Knowing what the codons do in real life is totally different, and is the subject of this intro. If you look at protein models like Acetylcholinesterase, it looks like a ball of tangled yarn, but when heat is applied or a chemical gradient occurs, the protein and changes shape, hence the comparison to machines.

What makes ASIC special is you are implementing the algorithm in hardware as it is specific to do one thing.

Wow. THIS will be how AI becomes self aware; when digital computers design biological equivalents. In a decade, there will probably be an AI designed, biological neural network. Amazing.

Of course, the medical ramifications of this technology are staggering.

This is a once in a species type moment we are going through. Something like a taming fire, walking upright, or writing language level transition.
