I've spent a gigantic part of my life studying astronomy. It is extremely interesting and mind blowing stuff. But, so much of what we believe just isn't observable. The time theories and distances are just too vast and out of our realm to speculate properly and accurately.

Gotta give Pat props with guests recently . Touching a lot of genres. I’m not 1 that always agrees with him either necessarily, but going from a primarily business/economic/political pod to talking about this is pretty sweet haha

Short answer: We don't. We make assumptions.

So you empirically verified that the universe is 13.8 billion years old?

Hopefully by the time we get to see one we have figured out how to work the space in time

There is a company that says you can name a star after someone is it any truth to that?

You don’t know, everything you observe you do so because of protons of light or other forms of radiation . But the basic double slit experiment shows us that observation changes the nature of the protons behaviour .

No one has observed it bc the universe is only a few billion years old. Is that why? Or maybe bc we don’t live that long?

Finally, someone said that the whole human cosmology is just a Theory!

How do they know how old the universe is?

I just realised, the universe is a literal child

If no one has ever seen this happen. How do they know what will happen when it happens? But they know how old the universe is.

Meanwhile us humans live 100 years or less (or a little more). Some die at birth...trillions of years?

It's not 13.8billion years old. It is much older and by our timeline, this claim is in error.

I wonder how many insecure people are hitting the panic button over this short after hearing the Sun's going to burn out someday?
