This video shows history's 100 largest empires.

Note:
Some empires may look larger or smaller than others even if an empire is said to be bigger in the video. This is because of the map projection, which can distort size. This is also because this list is subjective to interpretation and there is no definitive list of the 100 largest empires. My list is mainly based off of the list on wikipedia, but with a few tweaks here and there. Some flags on the list aren't always national flags, some symbolize the state, the ruling dynasty, or are military flags. My list is not perfect.

The Tang and Ottoman empires with their respective vassals were much bigger. The 7th century Tang Dynasty had a size of 14M km² whereas the 1577 Ottoman Empire stretched over an area of 9M km²

Thanks for displaying the Tang Dynasty's proper flag 😉
However, the size of the Tang and Ming are bigger than shown in the video. For instance, the Ming controlled the port of Palembang (and thus was the only Chinese empire to have a directly-controlled overseas colony), but that isn't shown in the video.

The Spanish Empire was technically significantly bigger depending on how you look at it. It had occupied the Nootka Territory in NW America (even if it didn’t enforce it), Spanish Sahara and northern Morocco, Equitorial Guinea, Spanish Netherlands, and parts of what is now Italy and France.
