I do recommend going to China, just not with Sinorama tour company based in Canada. Beware of companies that state “arts and crafts” in fine print and do not list them as an activity. Sinorama uses this for a brief demonstration of a product and then SHOPPING where people chase you around the store to get you to buy. We missed museums and other possible attractions because you’re held hostage shopping. Some travelers welcome these activities, but it is a long way to go when these items are available on the internet. Read all the reviews from other companies and compare itinerates. First sort out what you want to see. One thing that isn’t realized is how much travel time there is between sights. We had 4 internal flights, one ferry crossing, one high speed train ride, along with bus transport. While this may sound ok on paper in reality it was exhausting. Sinorama was supposed have a guide that stayed with us for the entire trip. They saved money and only had local guides. This for example caused confusion when one flight was delayed and the gate was changed. No one spoke Chinese and the announcement could not be heard. Most the toilets are squat holes and there is no toilet paper or soap in most bathrooms. China is a wonder place to visit. Some Chinese speak English and we found them enchanting and welcoming. Sinorama was a problem for us in addition to the above statements when we spent money on their supposed upgrade and they could not even provide a timely ride to the airport. They told us the only transport they would provide was with another couple leaving us in the airport for 6 hours before our 15 hour flight home plus 1.5 hours on the runway. We paid them $ 1, 000 upgrade fee and in the end they would not even pay the $40 for the taxi ride to the airport. In summary upgrades are not worth the extra costs since basic services have to be provided to all customers. Small groups are offered but we were thrown in with the large groups on several occasions per Sinorama’s convenience. All small groups converge at sights that attract thousands. Again put time into research before you buy your tour package and I’m sure the trip will be smoother because of it.

You would have had to be a mountain goat to climb the Great Wall at the spot Sinorama took us to. It was straight up and exhausting. Not a leisurely walk at all like pictured here! They show one thing then give you something else.
