If by, “the empire had a rule that tie pilots couldn’t fly the same ship twice” you mean, tie pilots did not have their own starfighters, then you are correct… But there was no “rule” that said they COULDN’T fly the same ship

Makes a lot of since considering Poe Dameron almost died trying to get to his ship in the last Jedi. But then again, I doubt the character would’ve been missed. As not many may know him, like Luke, Leia or Boba Fett. We’ve known other characters in Star Wars longer than the ones in the sequel trilogy, and they’re much more relatable.
