Nanomotors - Medical Nanotechnology On Its Way?

preview_player
Показать описание
Researchers controlled nanomotors inside living cells for the first time using tiny synthetic motors and ultrasonic waves. Penn State scientists have a brand new way to study cell biology, but may be on the way to medical nanotechnology- they could treat diseases like cancer by manipulating cells, delivering drugs, and maybe much more. Kim Horcher, Tim Frisch, and Dave Rubin (Host, The Rubin Report) discuss.

Still think it's going to be big, self conscious robots.

The new version of "The day the earth stood still" didnt suck!
Maybe for surface level thinkers who thought the Matrix  2 and 3 sucked.

It's possible that grey goo could conglomerate and evolve into larger, macroscopic robots. Like how unicellular organisms evolved into complex multicellular ones. Or like the human-form replicators from Stargate.

Our nanotech will be significantly less sophisticated than nature for a long time to come. Natural systems will literally eat our nanotech for breakfast - so we have less to fear frpm grey goo than we do from fungal, bacterial or algal blooms getting out of hand because we provide an overabundance of exotic nutrition for some critter we find toxic / disruptive.

I love the idea of nanotechnology but I'm worried it will be another addition to the stuff we thought we'd have in 20 years but never did. I should have been having virtual sex in my flying car by now.
