very nice m8, i've been running windows 11 ltsc 24h2 for a few months now. sudo works perfect not that i see the point of this on windows as just running as admin on terminal does the same thing without sudo. great vid as always.

As I won't be getting 24H2, I''ll manage without it, like I have been doing for the last 26 years

I'm fine with this. I may use it at work when we end up moving to Windows 11 someday. I generally avoid scripting on Windows like the plague (I really HATE PowerShell), but I'm glad to see more *nix capability getting into Windows. Sure this will create a lot of problems initially (sudo requires a certain level of care to use correctly) and it will take time for people on Windows to learn how to use it correctly after it took Linux users a while to warm up to it and learn it (older hands like me took a long while to get use to it vs just doing su), but they'll get there eventually.

So does it not ask for a password when using sudo in windows?

So windows is becoming weird Mac Linux hybrid...

Not worth dealing with 24h2’s bullishit. There’s plenty of stuff like nsudo that do this. 24h2 kills compatibility, takes away control over your own privacy, and limits what you can do on your own computer. What you can do is needlessly sent to Microsoft, previous regedit tweaks and group policy mean nothing now. You are stuck with what they want you to have and watch you the whole time. All this shit will also needlessly affect your performance too. 23h2 at least can be altered although Microsoft still tries to fight you every step of the way, it’s at least still possible if you know what you are doing

If it asks for uac anyway then then it's annoying to use sudo

Hmm Brian thanks for the explanation but mate the sudo command prompt is one of the things that I found very confusing and even complicated when using a Linux distro. So why Microsoft want to go down this path is frankly adding yet another level of stuff that is of no use to me and I will not be going to 24H2 anyway unless it becomes a mandatory version to be able to use Windows 11. In any case I have already fixed my machines with the tutorial you put out blocking any further updates other than 23H2.

They should've done this years ago, like when Bill was still running things.

No password? What's the point then?
Microsoft: We have a great idea! Let's implement a safety feature, but, and here's the genius part, without the safety mechanic!

I use gsudo for years now, it works well. I wonder if this native windows sudo will work as well (i doubt it a little bit, since gsudo can do system and trusted-installer stuff ... and just write gsudo or sudo in the "terminal" elevate the whole cmd windows, it's very usefull). I just hope they will do better than the current stuff. In the UAC, it just show "sudo". That should be "Software name + argument via sudo". I'm pretty sure they can do that ...

So much for Linux if Windows has access.

SUDO on Windows seems like a pretty big mistake! Seems I missed seeing an administrator password typed in anywhere. (Just where is that list of sudo users, anyway?)

... Seems to me, Microsoft adopting more Linux stuff is just Microsoft being Microsoft, implementing their "Adopt - Adapt - Extinguish" _modus operandi_

Seriously long overdue for Windows this one.

I'm to old to remember and I don't even know what sodo is.

No password required because we presented you a popup window.

Hackers: Great, now it will be even easier to embed code that needed admin privileges.

Giving Linux users something familiar so when they move to Windows it will be easier for them. 🤣🤣

So now Windows will be only missing "doas" command from BSD 😊
