Oh, Pretty Woman - 2022 Remaster (Roy Orbison)

Показать описание
In the middle of Beatlemania, the year 1964, Orbison managed to have a #1 hit on both sides of the Atlantic. He was the only American to do so that year, and also the only American with a UK #1 in 1964. He didnt have just one no. 1, but two, the latter being "It's Over", also written with Dees.
.
The song was written with Orbison's writing partner Bill Dees in a span of 40 minutes based on a remark Dees made to Orbison's wife.
From Dark Star: The Roy Orbison Story by Ellis Amburn:
'When Claudette walked in the room where Dees and Orbison were writing to say she was heading for Nashville, Orbison asked if she had any money. Dees said, "A pretty woman never needs any money"'
.
The opening riff, played by a guitarist named Billy Sanford (who also played with Elvis or Tom Jones) is credited as a direct influence on the 1965 worldwide hit (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.
.

Lyrics:
Pretty woman, walking down the street
Pretty woman, the kind I like to meet
Pretty woman
I don't believe you, you're not the truth
No one could look as good as you
(Mercy)
Pretty woman, won't you pardon me?
Pretty woman, I couldn't help but see
Pretty woman
That you look lovely as can be
Are you lonely just like me?
(rrRrrrR)
Pretty woman, stop a while
Pretty woman, talk a while
Pretty woman, give your smile to me
Pretty woman, yeah, yeah, yeah
Pretty woman, look my way
Pretty woman, say you'll stay with me
'Cause I need you, I'll treat you right
Come with me baby, be mine tonight
Pretty woman, don't walk on by
Pretty woman, don't make me cry
Pretty woman, don't walk away, hey...
OK
If that's the way it must be, OK
I guess I'll go on home, it's late
There'll be tomorrow night, but wait
What do I see?
Is she walking back to me?
Yeah, she's walking back to me
Oh, oh, pretty woman
