The Volksgrenadiers Divisions of the Wehrmacht | The Last Hope of Germany

In the summer of 1944, the situation for Germany was critical, and its armies had just been practically destroyed on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. Because of this, new combat divisions were needed on the front line, and for this, new units needed to be created. However, due to the strategic emergency and the shortage of men and material, the German divisions suffered a strong modification. This is how, in the autumn of 1944, the so-called Volksgrenadiers divisions arose, which despite having fewer soldiers, had great firepower that was applied in defensive combat. The MG 42, Sturmgewehr 44, and anti-tank weapons such as the panzerfaust single-shot rocket launcher, were the key weapons of these units. In this program, we tell his story...

Germany had the most battle hardened troops ever. Short of supplies, it was their throe.

Operation Bagration, which began June 22, 1944 (three years to the date of Operation Barbarossa - Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union), completely annihilated Army Group Center. Something like 28 out of 34 German divisions of the German third panzer, fourth and ninth armies. I believe the Germans lost 400, 000 soldiers in just a couple months. It was the writing on the wall for Germany that all was lost.

Had the weapons used by the Volksgrenadiers were armed with been used by the Wehrmacht from the beginning, it may have made a marked difference. An advantage the US Army had was small arms firepower.

My daddy killed a shitload of his Deutsch cousins. A few in the air as as a Spitfire pilot . Confirmed gun camera footage. He spent 5 months in a torso cast . Then the real killing started. I live his difficult life . The Germans were the best trained fighting men in the world. The RUHR Pocket, about March 1945 . Strafing & dive bombing. More terrifying ground fire, than Arial combat . He had nightmares for decades after.

If you've seen that clip of Hitler's last days in Berlin where he's reviewing these kids from the Hitler Youth, patting them on the cheeks, some of them survived. One of them put up a video some years back, describing his spiritual development thereafter and his pacifism. It was fascinating listening to his struggles overcoming the brainwashing.

I know there are U.S. citizens who hate this country so deeply they would celebrate (like most Ukrainians did when the Nazis were first marching through) if Chinese or Russian troops were marching through this country. But they are few. I have my personal list of detested and favorite presidents, not a one for whom I would fight and die for. My patriotism is to my country, for which I would lay down my life. That's the sentiment, I am sure, these men had. They weren't willing die for Hitler, except maybe the very few fanatics.
