If it wasn't the handful I discovered in Hartford, Connecticut in my youth; I'd be shouting out from the rooftops how rare this killer Northern Soul dancer was. I found a small stock of Eddie M. Gray work on this Sound Of Soul records and his own Gray Sounds label there. Along other rare soul goodies.

1960s label from Brooklyn-Born Eddie, who adjusted his name with a "M" in the middle to avoid confusion with the now famous Eddie Gray an integral part of Tommy James and the Shondells - and the writer of the stunning "Crystal Blue Persuasion" recorded by so many notable artists.

The talented, yet mysterious Eddie M. Gray, I've always suspected is actually E. J. Chandler singing under a pseudonym. Eddie only did a few creations in 1966/67 before disappearing from the New York music scene.
He was also responsible for Sandy Waddy "Everything Is Everything" another fabulous feelgood Northern Soul mover that was briefly played in '74 era. But Sandy Waddy is so much more available, than this forgotten killer by E. J. Chandler - I Can't Stand To Lose You.

The handful that came home with me to 25 Baldocks Lane, Melton Mowbray in 1976 triggered some strong turntable action. So much so, E. J. Chandler - I Can't Stand To Lose You, was reissued in 1979 on Kev Roberts' Nottingham based label from Colony Records Limited, Destiny Records, Unit 4, Hurts Yard, Nottingham, NG1 6JD now of course the location for the World famous Rob's Records, ran by the much-loved Rob Smith.

So listen now to a spectacular slab of East Coast Northern Soul that for only a fleeting moment passed through our lives in the mid-seventies. But quickly disappeared and quickly became a "lost" classic example of proper stomping Northern Soul highlighting Eddie's harsh falsetto singing propelled by considerate horns and relentless percussion. Decorated by a shrill compliment of subtle girl harmony.

KILLER NORTHERN SOUL well on the "comeback" trail as the top DJ's seek out those superior outside the Top 500 this supreme "oldies" we have yet to grow weary of...

But do NOT overlook the ravishing "lowrider" harmony ballad "Believe In Me" on the flipside... also something very special.

Eddie M. Gray you were some talented "soul" man - today is like an "old friend" coming home...but sounding even better than ever!

Condition Report
Two bright yellow flawless labels, vinyl is an equally unblemished mint minus. Top copy!
