Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942, is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport. His career was notable not only for his achievements inside the ring but also for his charismatic personality, sharp wit, and the significant impact he had on politics, religion, and civil rights outside of it.

Ali first gained international fame by winning the light-heavyweight gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics. He then turned professional, and his unique style—floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee—along with his unorthodox techniques, made him stand out in the boxing world. He became the heavyweight champion of the world in 1964 by defeating Sonny Liston, a victory that shocked many.

Beyond his boxing career, Ali was known for his vocal opposition to the Vietnam War, which led to his arrest, the stripping of his boxing titles, and a four-year ban from the sport during his prime. His conviction was eventually overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1971. Ali became a symbol of resistance and a hero to many people around the world.

Ali converted to Islam and changed his name from Cassius Clay, which he called his "slave name," to Muhammad Ali. He was a prominent figure in the civil rights movement and advocated for racial pride and black empowerment.

Over his career, Ali engaged in several historic boxing matches, including fights against Joe Frazier, known as the "Fight of the Century" and the "Thrilla in Manila," as well as "The Rumble in the Jungle" against George Foreman, where he regained the heavyweight title in 1974.

Ali retired from boxing in 1981 and later in life, he devoted much of his time to philanthropy. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome in 1984, a condition that was believed to be related to the head trauma sustained during his boxing career. Despite his illness, he remained active in public life, advocating for peace and humanitarian causes until his death on June 3, 2016.

Muhammad Ali left a lasting legacy not only as a phenomenal athlete but as a humanitarian, social activist, and cultural icon who challenged the norms of his time and inspired millions around the world.
