This “Dame is bad a defense” narrative is so old and outdated. His defense has improved tremendously. He’s a top 5 player without a doubt.

I hate the argument that Dame isn't good on the defensive end. That dude has improved his defense every year and I constantly watch him play great defense on bigger players. I could play the same defense as AD with his size and body, lmao. If you think Dame is a defensive liability, you don't watch Portland games at all. Especially for his size, he's good. And he makes up for whatever "defensive liability" with his scoring either way.

AD has infinitely more talent that Lilard, but Dame can actually use his talent to consistently lead his team to the playoffs and make his teammates better. Like other stat sheet stuffers of years past, AD looks like he should be a top 5 player on paper based on his talent alone, but he doesnt have the leadership or the mentality to take a team over the hump. Its why the Lakers are always in a rut when Lebron isnt playing. I expect AD to be the new scapegoat ala Kevin Love if the Lakers fail to win a ship this year.

Sports media overvalues potential versus results. They ignore what's happening with guys like Lillard and Klay Thompson, in favor of speculating on what-ifs. What is AD gets to play with a leader? What-if Lebron gets "real" talent around him? What if Ben Simmons could shoot? Well... what if Dame was 6'7' with a 40' vert plus his skill set? Damian has been putting lottery teams in the playoff for years. He has paid the price, and is transforming is what is happening.

For everyone talking about Dame's defense to say he's not better than AD, even though it has gotten better.. people don't be saying anything about Steph's defense because of his offense. Why can't Dame get the same treatment, when then their offense is about the same but Dame is still better defensively than Steph is.
