Classic Chinese Building: Candra Naya 🇮🇩

One of the classic Chinese buildings is the Candra Naya Building. This building is located between the surrounding apartment buildings on Jalan Gajah Mada Number 188, West Jakarta. The sighting looks unusual with the surrounding area.
Candra Naya Building was once the home of a Chinese major in Batavia. He was Major Khouw Kim An who was born on June 5, 1879 in Batavia. Khouw is the son-in-law of Poa Keng Hek, the founder of the first modern Chinese organization in the Dutch East Indies, Tiong Hwa Hwe Kwan.
In the Suharto regime, all names that sounds Chinese had to be changed to Indonesian names. Therefore, the building that was originally named Sin Ming Hui turned into Candra Naya.
