Kites and Rhombuses have their area calculated by the same method (formula). I made this video for my wonderful year 8 Maths class.

Oh the joy of teaching

Hi Rob

I love watching your videos for the wrong reasons. They are to me a great example of the joy of teaching. Seeing the “lightbulb moment” when you explain something and they “get it”. When your little tips and tweaks are taken on board and demonstrated back to you. When your humour is appreciated with a smile or a nod or a headshake or a face palm or a groan. That moment when you know you have changed the young person’s life forever. They may not ever use this level of maths (or any subject) in life and they might forget how to do it but they will always remember the positive relationship that they had with you. Also they will have the confidence to approach life problems knowing by changing their viewpoint, rearranging the parts, looking for things they can change and realising that the solutions are not always neat and tidy. This is what I miss in retirement.
