This is what's called a "Maneuvering Kill". The skill of the pilot is just as important if not more so than whatever weapons he has on the plane. If you can't use the tool, it's useless.

The Swede's once sunk a Russian Mig fighter over the Bearings Sea this way, with a Viggen fighter, that simply flew low over water and could slow down until the Mig lost lift.

How slow you can fly seems a quirky but useful feature. 🤗

I always thought that on one hand, it'd be amazing to be the pilot credited with the kill. But on the other hand, it'd suck to be the guy who not only died in air combat but died trying to kill a biplane that was fairly outdated during its combat career.

This seems similar to the unarmed EF-111 Raven that managed to down an Iraqi Mirage F1 in Operation Desert Storm. Who needs a gun or missiles when you can make your adversary hit the ground.

Dad told a story about an old sergeant he knew during his service with the USAF. The sergeant was a flight instructor. A "butter bar" said he could win any dogfight against the old man. It was agreed the old sergeant would fly a prop plane against the young buck in a jet. IDK exactly what the sergeant's tactics were, but it was something about giving chase then stalling his engine. The sergeant's prop plane would drop. The young guy would whiz past in his jet. The sergeant would then regain a climb. (It was agreed to attack with only onboard guns. The triggers only activated cameras. No real bullets were fired.) The sergeant's roll of film showed the jet very close up nearly every frame. The lieutenant's film showed the prop plane's tail section in one frame. Dad told that story, not me. I'm not lying. And why would Dad? It's not his glory. You can tell me to my face Dad lied. He was a story teller after all.

The most fitting plane for the task will finish the task, not the strongest.
Just like in evolution.
You have to pick the next Gen fighter over the target, not the latest you've got. Using a jet to eliminate a propeller biplane is like trying to use a hammer to kill a fly,
