Quarter Size Pac-Man Arcade Cabinet | Ashens

It's a 1/4 size Pac-Man arcade cabinet! An early version of one being released in a few months, in fact. But is it worth the hefty price tag? That's for you to decide, but I shall provide essential information along with audio-visual proof for you to make an informed decision. Because yes.

When will get our own Quarter sized Ashens figure? With accessories like floating hands, brown sofa, and LIQUID FILTH

Paint your white sofa brown. I don't like change.

The screen issue has a really "easy" solution (but not a cheap one): You get a screen that is too large, draw the game on a perfect scaling centered on that screen, but keep the extra screen area hidden behind the cabinet decorations.

Are you telling me you've had more than one sofa this whole time and never told us?

What kind of ramshackle operation are you running here?!?

"Pac-Man goes skating— no, I made that one up."
Pac-Man World 2 actually has him skating in a few levels XD

They could've used a larger-than-necessary screen, had the game play in a box in the middle of the screen at an integer-scaled resolution, and then used the bezel to cover the rest of the screen. That probably would have been the most cost-effective way of dealing with the scaling issues.

Why move sofa? Could you not have repositioned the camera, which you had to do with the creamy elephant?

They should joke about offering a 1/4 scale Polybius machine, for next april fools.

2:24 3 by 4 technically, the tube was mounted vertically. But it was just a standard monitor tube, which were pretty much all 4:3 then

10:20 The resolution is a different issue. But one potential solution would be a physically larger display and then hide chunks of it behind the bezel so you can have 1:1 pixel matching on a small visible area. Kind of like how the 2DS only had one screen and hid chunks of it for the lower resolution touch display.

14:46 You could probably crowbar a few classic games on there if you repurpose the player 1&2 buttons as fire buttons. Galaga springs to mind as an obvious candidate. Frogger would work too but I don't think it's a Namco game.

Looks bigger than a quarter.
Bigger than a half-dollar, even.

13:16 I think that must be the only time I've watched a sofa video where Stuart's head actually appears in frame?!
And was said head adorned with a baseball cap?!

There are ways with subsampling and bilinear filtering that can fix the screen resolution mismatch without needing a superduper screen.
The snes mini etc use those to avoid the scroll shimmering.

Now Ashens, that's clearly bigger than a quarter. Its about the size of a large christmas turkey.

Really hard to justify the cost of this thing. As lovely as it is. That screen resolution scaling is the biggest turn off for me.

Man, that screen really kills it for me. I absolutely hate it when the graphics look distorted and not integer scaled. I'd rather have a tiny playing screen than a distorted one.

Pac-Man arcades were in the 3:4 (4:3 turned to portrait) aspect ratio.
