The Whittakers are a family in Odd West Virginia. They became famous with Mark Laita on his channel Soft White underbelly for documenting their impoverished life. What makes them interesting is their family members have disbabilities that mimic what we perceive as results of inbreeding.

Awww…I’ve followed this family for years ♥️. My own family are in KY and the Appalachian Mountains and the lifestyles up in those hollers are quite different than a lot of people may not know or understand. Certainly it’s not their fault for any reason whatsoever that they were dealt these ‘hands of cards’ (so to speak) in life. Sweet family.

Ray could have come so far if he had been given help. He obviously is capable of learning and understanding. To live in filth and the obvious pain he is in with his knee is so sad. It’s sad the county or state could not have stepped in and got this family some help. Ray has a soft spot in my heart.
