🇩🇰🥔 Buying Potatoes in Denmark on Fyn📱

Can YOU buy potatoes like this wherever you live? We visited Kerteminde, a cute seaside town on Denmark’s third largest island, Fyn. It’s was named on of Europe’s best secret villages by National Geographic and it’s meant to have Denmark’s best ice cream. We spotted an old windmill as we drove into town, so we made use of our car rental and drove around until we found it in Viby, then we continued up the coast to hike around the northern peninsula. It was windy AF. As we drove back to Kerteminde we spotted something we only heard about in urban legends - meaning Copenhagen urbanites back home told us about them, told us about these roadside produce stands where you can buy a bag of potatoes for 15 kroner or two bags for 25. All you do is take them out of their storage unit, then take out your phone and send an electronic payment to the person who put them there. We call it mobile pay here in Denmark, but it left us wondering -

I'm from Denmark. Those roadside stands are fairly normal to see in the more rural areas. And they tend to have fairly great quality products. Also, it's just such a joy to buy from them.

Almost all of rural Denmark have stands like this with seasonal produce, honey and other yumyum stuff.

Also, many places (at least in Jylland)you can just roll up at the farm and buy fresh produce .. potatoes, eggs or seasonal veggies, sometimes the farmer even have time for a chat, Even if he dont know you

My favorite thing is to drive around in the summer, look at the beautiful fields and stop at a stand where you can buy fresh strawberries. It's the best! Also, some stands don't have mobilepay (electronic payment), so you have to some coins with you. And then you simply put the coins in a box, which the owners of the stand can collect later. The trust in Denmark is so high that there is no one checking to see if you actually pay for what you took. It's just natural to pay (even if there's no one to hold you accountable)

Yeah. I live in Jylland and those things are everywhere. Like i can hop on my bike, drive 10-15mins and I can get potatoes, strawberries, Marmelade etc.

It's common in Sweden too. Last summer I bought a grape vine from outside someone's house.

In Hundested, northern Sjælland where I'm from, most of the farms have a roadside produce stand like that one. 😊

Within a couple of km I can buy free-range eggs, organic vegetables, fruit and self-pick flowers were I live in western Jutland. I love it ❤

And yes, we pay for it. 😎

Yes I can - about 800 meters from my home, I have two places with different produce and the fields is just beside them. But I also live on Fyn 😂

Yeah, I can. While I live in Copenhagen nowadays I used to live in rural zealand, and roadside shops like these aren’t unusual. My uncle has an entire gazebo of things from milk and eggs to wheat, hay and berries he grows on his farm

We moved from Jutland sometime last year. There were always roadside sun flowers, rabarber, and cherries. Miss that a lot during the summer
