The School Strat Build - Back Cavities and Contours

This is a new…well…partially new project series. Meet the Maximum Guitar Works “Belle” guitar. Belle is a Strat type guitar that I was building as a demonstration guitar build for my beginners Electric Guitar Construction class that I teach at Red Rocks Community College. The semester was cancelled half way through because of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. So…here is the rest of the build for my students…and I hope you enjoy it.

This episode focuses on the back cavities and contours. We started with the tremolo cavity…then moved to the neck heel recess area…then finally demonstrated a couple processes to carve the belly cut area.

The difference between these earlier videos, and the more recent videos with the use of locating/indexing pins, is huge! From my perspective, as a guy who was the Manufacturing Process Engineering Department Manager and the Production Department Manager in my most recent position, and spent quite a few years overseeing the manufacturing process engineering in machining and manufacturing companies, just that difference alone is so significant in the precision and accuracy in the location of the individuals features, like neck pocket, pick up cavities, control cavity, etc, and the precision and accuracy of the how they are located relative to each other. 👍🏽

Just a thought on templates Steve how about making an infill piece and rout the small deep section for the tremblock first, then remove it and rout the 18mm depth spring bed afterwards??
