Have use ever thought that trauma victims are even more traumatised by skepticism and people who don’t believe them? I understand your intellectual debate but I’ve seen the damage that mistrust can do to these people also as it just adds to more trauma in these patients mind. Not gd solution either for patient as it could have potential to create mistrust of professionals who are meant to help! Just a thought that’s valid and needs to be considered too.
Imagine your the pt and people don’t believe u? And it’s a genuine case of DID. Talk about retraumatisation and why only a few people go to help these people. Lots of skills and knowledge are needed by therapists in multifaceted areas of therapy in order to help these pts.
They usually also present with comorbid and severe ptsd as a direct response to the trauma they have endured. DES scale and ptsd tests must be administered and when trauma so extensive u will usually find their story is berified by other people close to the person who knew about it.
Worst thing to do is treat them as liars or perceive them as lying. Think about it! Just adding to the mental scripts of that for them.careful as fsifferentia analysis yes but skepticism that it exists. Hmmm. Not nice to cont to hurt the victim because therapists cgnitve functioning skills are not high.
These cases are usually reserved for clinical psychologists who specialise in trauma and know wht to look out for as they send many years in health system misdiagnosed and educated inaccurately thus adding to ore trauma!
