What does the word terrorist mean? How do you call people defending their land terrorists

One of my liberal friends frequently uses 'Free Palestine' hashtags on social media and also holds skeptical views about the "existence" of Israel. Curiously, he is currently applying for a doctoral research program in computational neuroscience at Tel Aviv University's Department of Neuroscience. When I inquired about this contradiction, he skillfully avoided the topic. It is worth noting that individuals with liberal/leftist views, such as him, do not care about Palestine or its citizens. Their actions are only aligned with hollow slactivism on social media that adheres to their particular brand of political correctness.

The animosity between the west and Iran was started by the brits and Americans ( who else?) They overthrew the elected government of Iran and installed a dictator who would do their bidding. This harsh regime gave rise to fierce opposition from the people and the rise of Islamic leadership. The shah fled to America, taking with him as much of the country's money as he could carry.
