Sérgio Santos Mendes ; born February 11, 1941 is a Brazilian musician. He has over 55 releases, and plays bossa nova heavily crossed with jazz and funk. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2012 as co-writer of the song "Real in Rio" from the animated film Rio.

Mendes is a unique example of a Brazilian musician primarily known in the United States, where his albums were recorded and where most of his touring took place.

Mendes is married to Gracinha Leporace, who has performed with him since the early 1970s. Mendes has also collaborated with many artists through the years, including The Black Eyed Peas, with whom he re-recorded in 2006 a version of his breakthrough hit "Mas Que Nada".

The guy on the left on this album cover is Manfredo Fest, the person most responsible for developing the Bossa Nova when he was in college in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He joined Sergio Mendes in California and later played solo in Chicago & Minneapols.

One of my favorites. Always listen to it in March. I have the album. Bought it when it first came out.

The last time I heard this song on the radio, I was a kid in middle school back in the late 1970s. Hearing it again makes me almost feel as though I'm back in that time era.

A real contribution to '60s music.

I loved this album. My mother had it. I now appreciate it for another reason: both young women are wearing crocheted dresses! Something that's come back into vogue to a somewhat less extent.

I have absolutely no idea about the message of the song, but it reminds me of youth. Similarly, I have absolutely no idea what the ides of March are about. Wow what a month, March.

Nice one 👍 but I kept thinking of Herb Albert ? I loved The Lonely Bull. Don't know if you've heard it but it made me like the trumpet 🎺
