I guess this is the perfect skill to learn for starting a SUP foil downwinder in the small wind chop at the beginning of the run, as we have seen in the recent downwind races in Hawaii. Impressive at 80kg, much easier for the very small guys...

Hi awesome! You believe it's possibile also with a Reptile High 2000, 1050×245, area 2000 cm?

I'd never thought it could be done but seeying, is believing, keep up the good work, Mr Eric Terrien !!! I also really liked the other video doing giant figure 8's, for over 2 minutes, and chasing and catching the wakes, Well Done

easier if you sharpen the board/mast angle of attack

Hi Eric. Great stuff! What is the size of that BIC board? I am just learning to SUP foil, my question is how do you stop the board turning when you are paddling in the surf stance and only paddling on the one side?

Every aircraft pilot must learn to do this take off under his own steam before he learns to open the throttle of a powerful engine burning fuel at the rate of 500 gallons per hour in order to fly! This is what I call real flying as it is easy to do it with a surfboard in any shape and an engine or a thermal or a surf wave to provide the power to fly! Well done to anybody who can " take off and fly" under his own power and intelligence. It is such a pity that this type of intelligence is not appreciated by most educators!
The tangible guaranteed luxuries we have inside and outside our homes is due to a few people who had this type of intelligence in having enough courage, risk, and intelligence to " process a natural function" and not to remember information which others wrote in a book or to regurgitate previous information as required in most examinations and IQ tests. Examinations and IQ tests are not a real measure of intelligence. What we see in this video contains may statics and dynamic functions that need to be sensed by the operator and then PHASE HIS ACTIONS accordingly. To extract energy from the phasing being conducted by the operator there seem to be two important functions to be phased with each other. One function is the inclination of the foil with the front leg and the other is the power function /stroke which will consist of the timing of the jump of the hop. The acceleration and deceleration will increase and decrease the effective weight of the operator and this is used to increase the speed of the foil when it is inclined down and when the effective weight of the operator is low the foil will rise quickly to the upper height of the motion. This action is somewhat like the Stirling cycle where the two mentioned action must be at 90 degrees with respect to the other and this height gained, and the modulated velocity will extract energy from the modulated acceleration of the operator.
IT TAKES INTELLIGENCE TO ACHIEVE THE POWER, THE SEQUENCED PHASES OF EACH " STROKE" to gain the relation of the angle of attack of the foil with the acceleration timing of the operator in the vertical direction.
Riding on a wave will do it all so easily or with a jet pack installed in the system as the airfoil section will so all the continuous acceleration of the water to cause lift! With the reciprocating system used when a human operator pumps the system this is real flying as the birds do! where the wing itself is used to lift and propel the forward action. The sine and cosine functions are two beautiful and elegant mathematical trajectories that need to be followed so that the operator would use the least energy to fly. Birds as the seagulls, shearwater, and albatross. The albatross combines the sine and cosine mathematical function into a helix with which he pumps the flight across the wind, to extract energy from the wind. The flight of the foil is related to the manner the albatross pumps his own flight but he uses the different speeds of the wind close to the water and at a height of about 400 feet. I suppose birds that can solve such problems of pumping up a flight path to extract energy from flying across the wind in the form of a helix can be termed to be INTELLIGENT surely more than a human pilot who needs to open the throttle of a powerful engine to lift him up where when trimmed, a human pilot does not need to input any phased signals!!! and can in fact relax. One cannot do that with a foil. Note that one can build a double-action " foil" with which one can " walk on water"

It looks much easier than it is!-It's just something you must experience to get anything from it...kind of like surfing!...am I correct?

Optimum sq-cm per lb (rider weight)? Optimum liters (board volume) per lb (rider weight) for flatwater foil starting?

Is this a Māliko 280 or the 200? And how much do you weigh? I’ve been trying and it’s sooo hard to do!

I don't really see the good in use on flat lakes.

That would be fun for about 5 seconds...stay on a wave or behind a motor. Lol
