I didn't even think about the fact that the jumping was inherent to the controls. I absolutely love that, because the feather made traversing in Awakening so addicting to me. Having to not take up a slot to jump sounds really refreshing.

Whenever you summon an echo, one of the triangle's of Tri's crest is "spent". Some echoes take up two triangles, if you look at the UI closely. On some portions of footage, you can see Tri with four triangles on their crest, so it's certain that this can be upgraded.

The way you describe the puzzles reminds me a lot of A Link Between Worlds, where puzzles have multiple solutions but are still very deliberate. That's one of my favs, so that gets me even more excited!

6:55 It boggles the mind why Nintendo haven't used a grid instead of a line. The current inventory system they have is so space inefficient.

I was actually exhibiting at PAX West, so I made sure that Day 1, I went in extra early, before Media Hour and went straight to Nintendo to play this. I have to say, it honestly blew me away. When the game was first announced, I definitely had my hesitations, due to the re-use of the art style, and Zelda seemingly not having a "normal" way of attacking. I thought that the Echoes were cool, but was bummed thinking that I'd just have to watch enemies I summon fight for me or something; but then.... I played it and, it honestly put all of my worries to rest.

Everything felt SO smooth. Hell, even attacking enemies with rocks was somehow fun. That opening escape sequence was great because I had the guy from Nintendo telling me I was apparently doing things that the employees hadn't even tried (which we can blame on the fact that professionally, I'm a QA Lead so I tend to do weird obscure stuff while playing on accident haha). I was initially worried that we'd just be getting ALTTP map for a third time, but again, everything felt fresh and unique. That outside area, and small village after the initial escape certainly FELT new to me, and not like we were just retreading old ground. I could probably gush about this game forever now.

Nothing feels better than when you have your reservations about a game only for the game to absolutely crush them and show you how awesome it truly is.

Yessss. I've seen some other YouTubers post their first impressions. I'm glad you had the opportunity as well. Definitely looks like it's going to be one of the best 2D Zelda games.

@6:55 I had hoped the next game using that menu would improve it to a grid where each category had its own row. Still, can't wait to play it!

A top down zelda game focused on puzzles, it reminds me of the ittledew games which Arlo recommended to me a few years back

Personally, I think reviews, previews and first impressions like this one should be kept on the main channel. They are big and important enough for that, as more traditional "gaming journalism" stuff.

lol not to be a pedant but the first 2D "Zelda" to give players the ability to jump as an intrinsic ability is in fact the second one ever made, "Zelda II: The Adventure of Link". I do think "Echoes of Wisdom" is the first *top-down* 2D "Zelda" where this is the case, though, .
