Yep that's how I did it. Full-stack web developer to Web App PenTester. There was an internal job posting that I applied to within the company. I made it clear to them I had no experience in security apart from my own time spent learning a bit of it, but that I was very passionate and hungry to learn. They loved that I had a background in development.

1) If I take certifications like eg: OCSP would I still have to take a pay cut if I get a job in Ethical Hacker?
2) I know python and few more languages, does this give me an advantage? I usually code in Node Js and React Js
